Diaz Explains The Situation At The CSS Hospitals

HealthcareThe Director of Medical Services of the Social Security Fund, Javier Diaz said Friday that the institution is not going through a national contingency (health), but it was a clerical error. In that sense, he explained this is an institutional problem from one hospital to another, that because overcrowding is occurring in the emergency room of the Hospital Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid, some patients will be transferred to the hospital Dr. Susan Jones Cano, where they have temporarily suspended elective surgeries. The official said on TVN News, that there is a capacity for 1,500 patients at the hospital but they only have 1,100 beds, a situation that adds to the growing demand and the lack of structure. He said in the same way the capacity of the hospital's emergency room has been exceeded, compared to previous years. (Estrella)

Editor's Comment: There's been some confusion recently over actions being taken by the CSS to spread out the patient load. The ER at the Arnulfo Arias Madrid hospital on Via Transistmica became overcrowded, so they are sending some of those patients to another hospital, the Susan Jones Cano. In response to that increased work load, they have suspended elective surgeries there. In any case, these moves caused some confusion and concern.
