One Of President Martinelli's Yachts Sank Early This Morning

Boats and SailingBy DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - The initial report has since been confirmed. One of the private yachts owned by the President of Panama Ricardo Martinelli sank at 1:45 this morning, just as the yacht was arriving to Pinas Bay in the province of the Darien, in the Republic of Panama. There were four people aboard the boat when it sank, who were rescued by patrol boats belonging to the National Border Service (SENAFRONT). Three of the people on the yacht were "sailors" responsible for the operation of the boat, and the fourth is reportedly a body guard for Martinelli's son. There were no injuries. These additional details come from one of my journalist buddies - Castalia Pascual - the morning anchor for the channel 2 TVN news broadcast. I gave her the tip, she got the details. Synergy, baby...

I still don't know the name of the yacht that sank, nor the cause of the sinking. I've sent pings out to some other sources, let's see what they can turn up. But what matters at this point is that the basic information contained in the first report is both confirmed and correct.
