Galvez Would Dock The Pay Of Absent Lawmakers

Law & LawyersThe President of the National Assembly Sergio Galvez insisted on Tuesday, August 14, when Deputies are absent from the meetings of the full Legislature, their salary will be docked. "In fifteen days to a month, I could introduce a drastic change involving deductions from the members who are not present at the roll call, and whose seat is empty," said Galvez at a news conference, to introduce changes to the Internal Rules of the National Assembly. However, he clarified that those Members who send their alternates would not have their pay docked. Galvez said another proposal will be to change the time allocated for each Deputy to speak during the public debate from 30 minutes to 20 minutes, in the time spent to support the bills. "There are Deputies who opposing in advance any possible reforms that might come," said Galvez. He also said the coming changes are necessary for the better functioning of the National Assembly, although some could be interpreted as a drastic and radical. (Prensa)
