Panama Making Changes To Implement New Free Trade Agreement With The US
In the month of October the Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) signed between Panama and the United States will be implemented, for which both countries have been preparing with training and changes in laws.
This week Ricardo Quijano, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, must go to the National Assembly to present the bill that adds and amends provisions of Law 23 of 1997 on Rules for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, and the law on Copyright and Intellectual Property.
As announced the Copyright Act will keep the contents of Law 15 of 1994, with some modifications such as "the necessary adjustments arising from the new international treaties, modern information and telecommunications technologies."
They include amendments to the Copyright Act aimed at strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights through the enforcement procedures, training and modernization of institutions, as announced in the last Cabinet Council. (Telemetro)
