Special Commission On Bill 508 In Second Day of Dialog

Law & LawyersThe Special Commission of the various groups of Deputies in the National Assembly, created to discuss the proposed reforms to the Electoral Code, began its second day of dialog, but with little hope of reaching an agreement. This committee is composed of six members from the largest political parties, and its creation seeks to find a consensus to approve Bill 508, introduced by the Democratic Change and rejected by the PRD and Panameńista lawmakers. Failing an agreement, the plenary session could resume on Wednesday. So far, the sessions have been suspended due to the Commission's dialogue. (Telemetro)

Editor's Comment: So, this is the next step. They won't go back into regular sessions until these talks fail. And of course all sides will be looking to blame the other for the failure to reach a negotiated settlement. No matter, the CD still has the votes, and they could slam it through today if they wanted to. Sergio Galvez is just taking his time, that's all.
