National Assembly Passed Three Laws in 15 Minutes - To Implement Free Trade Agreement With The US

Law & LawyersThe three bills proposed in the National Assembly (AN) by the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ricardo Quijano, to implement the Trade Promotion Agreement with the United States, were approved this Thursday, September 27. All three of the proposals submitted by Minister Quijano were approved in just 15 minutes. There were only two abstentions, by the opposition Deputies of the Democratic Revolutionary Party, Leandro Avila and Eloy Francisco Vega. The first project in question is Bill 511, amending Law 35 of May 10, 1996, which enacts provisions on industrial property. The second initiative is Bill 512, which modifies, supplements, and repeals sections of Law 23 of 1997, on Standards for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants. And finally, Bill 512, through which issues related to wholesale business are regulated wholesale, the content insurance policies, the supervisory powers of the Insurance Superintendent, and Reinsurance. The project also crates procurement rules and regulates telecommunications issues. (Prensa)

Editor's Comment: I'm glad to see they're taking these issues seriously. These were whisked through quickly, in order to implement the Free Trade Agreement.
