Contributed by: Don WinnerYesterday afternoon police detectives from the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) dismantled a laboratory that was being used to manufacture heroin filled "tablets" used by human mules to smuggle the drugs hidden inside of their bodies.
Authorities arrested four foreigners and one Panamanian at the laboratory, located in Hato Pintado.
In addition to the 30 heroin filled tablets, detectives seized 1.5 kilos of marijuana, three 9 mm pistols, and a compressor machine used to make the tablets. Among those arrested was a female. (Dia a Dia)
Editor's Comment: Heroin is much "denser" than either marijuana or cocaine, in terms of value per kilo. If smuggling marijuana is like cash, then cocaine is like gold, and heroin is like diamonds. Relatively small amounts produce a lot of money on the street. In Latin American heroin is produced in both Colombia and Mexico.
