Panama: First peppers to go to U.S. market
After passing the requirements and inspections asked by the Department of Agriculture of the United States, for the first time, a Panamanian company was allowed to start pepper exports to the U.S. market, after the Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA) between the two countries came into force.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, José Pacheco Tejeira reported that the company is Veggie Fresh, located in Potrerillo, Chiriqui, which "produces 6000-7000 kilos of peppers per day."
Pacheco Tejeira explained that Veggie Fresh produces three types of peppers: red, green and yellow and "will start to export this year to the United States."
Furthermore, it was stressed that Dax Foster, company representative of Progressive Distributors of Grand Cayman Island, met with entrepreneurs of Cocle, Rio Hato, Rio Grande, Tonosí and highlands of Chiriqui, with the interest of buying fruits and vegetables from Panama.
Foster said, "Progressive Distributors is a large company that sells to five star hotels and supermarkets, so it is required for the product to be available throughout the year and of quality, as it has been seen in Panama." (Fresh Plaza)
