Alvarado said the Ministry of Agriculture has the resources to meet an emergency drought so it would not be necessary to use money from the FAP; however, since this emergency could expand to Cocle, Chiriqui and Panama, as well as to the “arco seco”, this might be a possibility.
The SINAPROC delivered last week to the Minister of MIDA, Oscar Osorio, the letter requesting the closure of the 2012 drought emergency and the opening of the new statement of 2013.
Alvarado expects this petition to be examined Tuesday morning by the Cabinet Council.
In the drought emergency of 2012, 325,000 dollars were allocated for the purchase of food, supplies and wells, and drinking troughs for animals. The lack of rain affected very specific areas in the province of Los Santos: La Villa, Guararé, Macaracas, El Cedro and Corozal.
The new aid is aimed to help farmers who have a total of 50 cattle, said Alvarado.(TVN News)
