Wind Turbines For The First Wind Farm in Penonome Arrived Today

Environmental IssuesThe first parts for the Wind Farm in Penonome arrived today at the Cristobal port in Colon.

The first wind turbines were built by the Chinese Wind company Goldwind.

The Wind Farm, with an investment of 440 million dollars, will start operating by the end of 2013, and will generate 220 megawatts, which will provide among the 6% or 7% of energy consumed by the country, according to the executive of the Spanish company.

The introduction of the wind energy will allow Panama to reduce its reliance in fossil fuels, prevent the emission of 450 thousand tons of carbon and eliminate the emission of 1,000 tons of nitrogen oxide and 500 tons of sulfur dioxide.

The Wind Farm of Penonome will be the first in Panama and the largest in Central America, and it is expected to start operating by December 2013. (TVN)
