Miguel Cardona Says There Is No Problem With The Amount Of Metro Bus Drivers

Cars & TransportationThe manager of the Mi Bus company, Miguel Cardona, said the Metro Bus has no "shortage" of operators and said the new system has 2,700 drivers.  

In an interview, Cardona told the Prensa.com Mi Bus has allocated three drivers per bus, which rotate on schedule.  

"A bus is driven by many drivers, but usually we have 2,700 bus drivers for 1,200 buses," he said.  

On drivers layoffs made ​​by the Mi Bus, Cardona said at no time has the company made 1000 or 2000 layoffs, as aforesaid, and could have happened was the dismissal of 100 drivers, due to disciplinary problems among other things.  

"I have never dismissed those quantities of Mi Bus drivers, the largest amoutn which has come out is about 100," he repeated.  

Contrary to the statements of Cardona, in March the Transport Workers Union Collective and Selective Panama reported the number of redundancies of Metro Bus drivers amounted to over a thousand.  

The leader of the operators, Inocente Guerra, said, in late February, 900 drivers were laid off, but the figure continued to rise in the first days of March. (Prensa)
