The fatal accident occurred on Red Frog Beach, located in Bocas del Toro.
In recent days national level authorities have issued repeated warnings via their websites and the media, and have appeared on Panamanian television, to warn swimmers of the risks posed by high tides, heavy surf, and wave action.
Every year during the dry season (mid-December to mid-April) several people drown on Panamanian beaches, after having been swept into the ocean by rip tides and under currents.
Editor's Comment: Red Frog Beach is one of the best and most popular swimming beaches in the Bocas del Toro area. I've been there myself with my family several times. However any beach in Panama can become dangerous when monthly high tides combine with heavy wave action due to offshore winds and storms. So far the identity of the victim has not been released.
