Now Rocking My Speakers - Blink 182 - The Rock Show

Bands & MusicBy DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - When I'm working I usually have something blasting my ears. I love Blink 182 - they're a "fun" and very talented rock band. For some reason I just played a bunch of their stuff this morning, and I had not seen their music video for "The Rock Show" in a long time. Makes a great statement. And the check they got was for $500,000 dollars...

Now Rocking My Speakers - "Sweet Home Alabama" - By The Leningrad Cowboys?

Bands & MusicBy DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Some of my friends from my old days in the military have relatively strange senses of humor. This morning I received a link to this article on a website called To The Point News - "Prepare yourself for this one - maybe with a Stoli martini or two. Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Red Army had an official choir composed of male soldiers and musicians. It still exists. The Red Army Choir performs throughout Russia to this day. Now consider the Finnish rock band called The Leningrad Cowboys. A little while ago, they held a concert in Russia, in which - to the screaming applause of Russkie teen-agers - they got the Red Army Choir to join them on stage for a performance of "Sweet Home Alabama." In English. You couldn't make this up. We're talking seriously off the wall here. Better have that Stoli ready when you watch it:"

Now Rocking My Speakers - Stone Temple Pilots - Plush

Bands & MusicBy DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Enjoying some good music this morning as I work on the website. The Stone Temple Pilots were big in the early 90's. I had this song - Plush - loaded on a CD player during a deployment to Saudi Arabia with the Air Force back then. I was flying on RC-135's (Rivet Joint) and we had a lot of down time - waiting for takeoff, pre- and post-mission briefings, etc. So for me this song brings back memories of zero percent humidity, temps over 120 by 9:00 am, and rides on a crew bus to catch the plane to nowhere in particular. Best when played really, really loud. And don't try to understand the lyrics unless you're smoked on heroin - as all of the grunge bands were at the time.

Today I Don't Feel Like Doing Anything...

Bands & MusicBy DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Just on the outside chance you're living under a rock somewhere and have not seen this video yet, it's worth watching. My four year old daughter simply loves this song and video, and she laughs herself silly the whole way through (the monkeys set her off...) This is Bruno Mars, and it's a good attitude adjustment for normally hectic Monday mornings.

"A Night For Peluca" - Raising Funds To Help A Friend

Bands & Music The truth is that the event organized by the friends of Ricardo “Peluca” Isaza - called "A Night For Peluca” - was very emotional and, above all, demonstrated that he is a beloved character. Last Wednesday in Nuvo Disco in Marbella many local artists, theater actors, TV presenters, DJs, musicians and the media came together to donate their talents to raise funds for "Peluca" to help cover his medical costs for treatment. Last 29 July 2011 doctors detected a fault in his bone marrow, which does not supply enough red blood cells and platelets to his body, and he has been hospitalized in the Santo Tomas hospital. At the event supporters "souvenirs", CD's, and stickers - raising more than $8,700 dollars. Notably Joaquin Carrasquilla donated a collectible Star Wars statue that was auctioned for $700 dollars. (Mi Diario)

Editor's Comment: "Peluca" is a friend of mine, great drummer, one of the founders of "Panama Rock" - I used to get merrily hammered watching him with Juan Sin Tierra and Pitongo play classic rock songs at the "old" Pavo Real. I really hope he gets well soon. I understand he has since been transferred from Santo Tomas to the Oncological hospital. Peluca has a lot of friends, and he's really a great dude.
