Petaquilla Confirms Gold and Copper at Botija Abajo in Panama

Gold & Mining Petaquilla confirms gold and oxide copper mineralisation at Botija Abajo, Panama LONDON (AFX) - Petaquilla Minerals Ltd said the second phase of drilling at the Botija Abajo copper gold deposit in Panama has found significant chalcocite (oxide copper) beneath epithermal gold mineralisation. The company also said the area is characterized by a sulfide-enriched, granodioritic intrusion that appears to be capped by an extensive oxide zone of copper mineralisation. Botija Abajo is owned by Minera Petaquilla SA, in which Petaquilla Copper Ltd owns a 52-pct interest. The drilling results generally confirm and add significant depth to the mineralisation defined via trenching, which had delineated strong surface gold mineralisation in the eastern half of the project area, Petaquilla Minerals added. newsdesk@afxnews.com tsm/jr

Bellhaven Doing Backflips

Gold & Mining PANAMA CITY, Panama, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bellhaven Copper & Gold Inc. (TSX VENTURE: BHV) is pleased to report additional, strongly anomalous, gold results for surface trenches located over the center of the Cerro Chorcha porphyry copper deposit in the western highlands of Panama. The trenches exposed two extensive quartz-magnetite stockwork zones with a combined 218 meters at an average grade of 0.88 g/t gold. These results continue to validate the presence of precious metal mineralization at Cerro Chorcha in addition to previously-reported copper mineralization. Continuous, two-meter channel samples were collected from two separate structurally controlled stockwork zones; one NE and one N-S that hosts the high-grade copper-gold-silver mineralization at Cerro Chorcha. Channel sampling within the NE stockwork structure follows the copper-gold-silver mineralized zone for at least 90 meters across strike. Discontinuous channel sampling within the NS stockwork structure, located west of the NE structure, follows the mineralized zone for at least 50 meters along strike and 35 meters across strike. Gold values were by a fire assay procedure (fire assay prep and ICP-MS finish) performed by ACME Labs in Vancouver. Copper and silver assay values from these trenches will be reported upon receipt of the assay results. (more)

New "Gold & Mining" Topic Category

Gold & MiningNow that the price of gold has risen sharply over the past few years there are several mining operations, most of them Canadian, are maneuvering for position, exploring, and raising funds to start up extraction operations. News articles covering gold and copper mining activity are appearing more frequently all the time and I've been tossing them into "Money Matters." But not it seems there enough traffic and international interest to justify a new section. So from now on anything having to do with mining will be over here. Thanks, and you can go back to your cup of coffee now. Really, it's ok... I know you don't care, but the guys from Petaquilla, Bellhaven, Geneva Gold, Oro Gold, and everyone else who is thinking about investing money on these things are very (very) interested. This activity is going to bring billions of dollars to Panama in the next ten years or so, and you're going to be hearing more about this, not less. Did you know that Petaquilla already has about 650 people working for them? It's all good...
