Leidys' mother Elsa went on the day of the accident to pick her up at the restaurant where she worked, and as they were driving on the Coastal Strip a car with licence plate number 637929 collided with them. Both the deceased and the injured are Colombian nationals. Leidys Buitrago was hospitalized for a long time to receive medical attention for an injured spine, which is recovering and she has to undergo therapy.
Last August the prosecutor held a reconstruction of the events, with the presence of the prosecutor and the young survivor of the accident. During the reconstruction, the prosecution determined the final positions of the vehicle and the motorcycle. There was a witness who said the vehicle ended up 350 meters from the point of impact, and a police officer went looking for it.
